Nursery Rhymes – Where Supply The Traditional Ones Gone?

Nursery Rhymes – Where Supply The regular Ones Gone?

In case you are scanning this article you, probably, have a very toddler or two caught creating havoc. If, like me, you’re wondering where every one of the traditional nursery rhymes have gone to, I’m here to treat your situation!

Do you remember the standard children’s songs from your kindergarten years like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Old MacDonald Were built with a Farm, Incy Wincy/Itsy Witsy Spider, ABC, etc? I reckon that that you remember them sung in the certain way, with various emphasis and stresses on certain keywords. You cannot your investment melodies either – impossible! In reality a great deal of melodies are reused on multiple nursery rhymes including Twinkle Twinkle gets the same melody because A, B, C Song and Baa Baa Black Sheep.

To help you imagine my horror when recently, when I was trying to entertain my youngest daughter (15 months old) with many videos on YouTube and almost none of these aforementioned kids’ songs were as I recalled! Was my poor memory to blame here?

I wanted to indicate my baby all the nursery rhymes that we had matured with, as did my own, personal mother/father and theirs too. I became stunned (or should that read “shocked”?) to see how disastrously bad most the net videos were. I mean these were really awful! At best, some were genuinely laugh out loud, however for all of the wrong reasons(!) at worst some were downright scary and maybe not really ideal for children. Possibly the ratio of excellent:low quality was around 1:40! In addition, i pointed out that the majority of the YouTube nursery rhyme videos had incredibly long intros – 20, 30 or maybe more seconds of pre-ambling material, promotions as well as other irrelevant material before going ahead and commencing the principle theme. I probably don’t need to inform you dear parent, that just 20 seconds can appears like a really long time when you’ve got a wriggling and slightly bored baby in your lap!

Not merely would be the websites and animations mainly of the incredibly bad quality your songs and lyrics themselves were frequently incorrect, since the singer/company’s first language was often not actually English. Where had every one of the real nursery rhymes gone I wondered? There was little or no online language resources that mirrored my childhood memories. “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” had now become “Dwingle Dwingle” as well as the son from Baa Baa Black Sheep now lived from the lane (whatever this means!)

It’s important that people don’t lose our traditional songs towards the unrelenting technological changes which allow one to upload any material that they like to the web. It is vital that top standards are honored therefore we pass our playground songs on accurately. I urge that you have a look at a few of the nursery rhyme videos by yourself to determine how awful they’ve become. You are going to laugh at some and cringe at others but as soon as the initial laughter has died down you too will notice the sadness of your childhood memories losing your way.

The volume of views a youtube video has received or where it appears inside the search results unfortunately doesn’t give any suggestion of quality. So, where to find the great things and overlook the bad? My recommendations are highlighted below:

Go to YouTube (not Google) to go looking
Use the nursery rhyme’s name – i.e. “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” is preferable to “Twinkle Twinkle” and employ speech marks around title.
Adding the saying “British” or “English” can certainly help
Click search options and under “Features” (far right) click High-definition.

Inspired with the deficiency of quality nursery rhyme videos available and with no previous experience, I assembled a group of people: myself, husband and 2 daughters(!), to generate an answer.

It had been extreme fun (also expensive!) at times it was very stressful project operating a remote group of animators, but we are hugely pleased with a final result. Our hope and dream would be to create more of these traditional nursery rhyme animations and upload them all to YouTube so they really be a free source of many.
